The Work that We Do Matters a Lot to Local Communities and Small Businesses

The Geoparks Investment Advisory Council (GIAC) serves as a platform dedicated to fostering collaboration between businesses, investors, and geoparks around the world. Much like any other Business Advisory Council or Chamber of Commerce, GIAC focuses on promoting sustainable development, investment opportunities, and networking within the geopark sector. The council works to support geoparks in achieving their economic, environmental, and social goals by facilitating connections between public and private sectors, as well as providing strategic guidance on investments and business opportunities. Through its Business Advisory Committee, Geoparks Business Council, and Investors Network, GIAC helps ensure that the geopark initiatives align with both local community needs and global sustainability targets.

Our organisation is registered in the Republic of Indonesia as a Non-Government social enterprise, a membership advocacy group, and a not-for-profit community organisation. We are extremely passionate about the work that we do here with local businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, and community organisers. It is our very mission to see Internationally Designated Areas (IDAs), especially geoparks, grow with new, sustainable, and regenerative opportunities. However, we also fully understand that some of our more premium services may not align with the limited resources that some partners may have. This is why our digital resources and insights have always been and will continue to remain completely free of any charge or fees. While we have begun publishing new materials that are paid such as the Geopark Quarterly as well as physical books, we still ensure that digital knowledge products remain free to access on our website.

This will not change.

The current problem we face is our limited resources and time. We cannot give all our time to communities and organisations that need us most, which so happen to be those that do not have the means to hire professional work. We are very proud of our long-standing commitment in providing free access to materials and services to those who need it most. These are rural, impoverished, exploited, and indigenous communities whose perspectives and voices need to be heard more. But in order to be able to do that, we need to ensure that GIAC is able to continue to grow and have the resources to provide more of our time and expertise to those who might not have the capacity to work with us normally.
